WASHINGTON -- The Atlantic 10 Conference recognized Saint Joseph's junior Laura Ziegler for the as the league’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Dayton freshman Olivia Leung was named the Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday following the conclusion of the second week of contests played November 18-24.
Ziegler posted two double-doubles during the trip out to Utah, averaging 26.0 points and 11.0 rebounds on the week, while adding five assists and three blocks, shooting 56.8% from the field, 40.0% from three and 100% from the free throw line. The Herlev, Denmark native dropped a career-high 30 points with 10 rebounds in the win over Southern Utah, adding three assists in the dominant team display against the Thunderbirds. The junior then registered a game-high 22 points with 12 rebounds, tallying two blocks and two assists as the Hawks were defeated by a late game-winning basket in overtime on the road at Utah. The two double-doubles were 24 and 25 of her career, the third and fourth of the season. Ziegler won three Player of the Week awards last season.
Leung had a breakout game with 13 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter, as the freshman guard led the Flyers to a 12-point comeback win over Providence Thursday night. The Calgary native was 3-of-4 from the field, a perfect 2-of-2 from three, and 5-of-7 from the free throw line to go with a pair of rebounds in the victory.
