DAYTON, Ohio – No. 3 Loyola Chicago held off late charge by No. 6 Saint Louis in all three sets to earn a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 26-24) Atlantic 10 Championship quarterfinal victory Friday at Frericks Center.
The Ramblers (19-11) advance to face No. 2 VCU in Saturday’s semifinals at 3:30 pm ET. Saint Louis ends its season at 11-20.
Marta Cvitkovic led LUC with 11 kills and hit .346. Esma Ajanovic hit a match-high .381 and Sam Falk recorded 17 digs. Ann Marie Remmes had five blocks and A-10 Setter of the Year Bree Borum tallied 32 assists, both of which were match highs.
In all three sets, Saint Louis was within two points in the final plays, but the Ramblers were able to close each game out with a kill or a block. The third set was incredibly tight and the Billikens tied it at 24 on a service error, but another service error put the advantage on Loyola’s side, and Remmes closed out the match with a kill.
Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year Addy Brus led SLU with 13 kills and Delaney Rice tallied 11. Both hit .333 and had six digs. Abby Lynn finished with 13 digs and 23 assists.
