WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference and Barclays Center will serve as a host for the 2028 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship First and Second Rounds, as announced Wednesday by the NCAA.
The 2028 First and Second Rounds will be the third NCAA basketball event at Barclays Center, which also was the site of 2016 and 2024 First and Second Rounds. Through its long-standing partnership with BSE Global and Barclays Center, the Atlantic 10 will have served as the host for all three NCAA events at the Brooklyn arena. The league was also slated to host the 2021 NCAA East Regional at Barclays Center, which was moved to Indianapolis during the COVID-19 pandemic. Eight of the last 11 A-10 Men’s Basketball Championships have been held at Barclays Center.
“We are thrilled to again be selected to host NCAA First and Second Rounds alongside our partners at Barclays Center,” stated Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. Designed to focus on basketball, the iconic Brooklyn venue is always a first-class experience for fans and players, whether it’s an Atlantic 10 Championship game, an NBA or WBNA contest, or the NCAA Tournament! Thank you to the NCAA for once again selecting the A-10 and Barclays Center to showcase this iconic event.”
“Barclays Center is thrilled to once again host the first two rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship,” said Laurie Jacoby, EVP, Chief Entertainment Officer, BSE Global. “The NCAA Tournament is a wonderful showcase of talent and sportsmanship, and we look forward welcoming fans from across the country to root for their teams and enjoy all that Barclays Center and Brooklyn has to offer. We are also proud of our long-standing partnership with the Atlantic 10 Conference and greatly appreciate their commitment to our venue.”
The host site award marks the fourth time since 2006 that the A-10 has hosted an NCAA Tournament round. In addition to the 2016 and 2024 First and Second Rounds, the league served as a First and Second round host at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia in 2006.
League member Dayton also retained the First Four through 2028, which it has hosted since the inception of the opening round game in 2001. Strongly supported by the local Dayton community, the First Four has remained in Dayton as it expanded from two teams to eight and from one game to four.
In addition, Duquesne will also host the 2027 NCAA Men’s Basketball First and Second Rounds at PPG Paints Arena. The Dukes also will host the 2027 National Collegiate Women’s Bowling Finals at AMF Mt. Lebanon Lanes.
Saint Joseph’s was awarded 2027 Women’s Basketball Regionals at Wells Fargo Arena.
Richmond is hosting NCAA Cross Country Regionals in 2027 at Pole Green Park, site of the 2024 A-10 Cross Country Championships. The Spiders will also host 2028 Men’s Lacrosse Quarterfinals at Robins Stadium.
