WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Richmond graduate student Jordan King its Men's Basketball Player of the Week. George Mason freshman Baraka Okojie and La Salle freshman Tunde Vahlberg Fasasi were chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Jan. 22-28.
King averaged 24.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steal to lead Richmond to two victories last week and 10 straight wins overall, the longest streak by the Spiders since 1935. He scored a Game-high 32 points versus George Washington on Wednesday with five rebounds and three assists, shooting .579 (11-of-19) from the field. The guard from Albany, N.Y., then led Richmond with 17 points in win over No. 16 Dayton Saturday, UR’s first ranked win since the 2022 NCAA Tournament against Iowa. King added four rebounds, an assist and a steal versus the Flyers, and hit 6-of-8 (.750) at the line.
Okojie tallied a career-best 18 points, made 5-of-6 (.833) field goal attempts and dished out two assists in George Mason's win against Rhode Island Saturday. The Brampton, Ontario, guard also went 8-of-10 (.800) from the free throw line. With Mason ahead 63-62 midway through the second half, Okojie turned rebounds and steals on three consecutive possession into points for himself and teammate, part of a 7-0 spurt that gave the Patriots a 70-62 edge with 8:14 left.
Vahlberg Fasasi poured in a career-high 19 points as the Explorers defeated George Washington on Saturday. The forward from Stockholm, Sweden, knocked down four of his five 3-point attempts and also blocked three shots and grabbed six rebounds in the victory. He also had seven rebounds versus No. 16 Dayton. On the week, he averaged 12.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and shot 60 percent (6-for-10) from 3-point range.
