WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Dayton junior DaRon Holmes II its Men's Basketball Player of the Week. George Washington redshirt freshman Garrett Johnson was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Dec. 25-31.
 
Holmes led the Flyers to their seventh consecutive win with his second double-double of the season. A forward from Goodyear, Ariz., he had 27 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots and two steals in a 78-69 win over Longwood. The points, rebounds, assists and blocked shots were all team highs. Holmes shot .692 from the field (9-for-13), .600 from deep (3-for-5) and .600 from the line (6-of-10). He is the only player in D-I who has at least 28 blocked shots to also have 33 assists.
 
Johnson recorded his team-leading third double-double of the season in GW's victory over Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday. A forward from Oakton, Va., he scored a team-high 18 points on 6-of-13 (.462) shooting while also grabbing 10 rebounds with two steals, a block and an assist. This is Johnson’s third A-10 Rookie of the Week honor this season.

Reed Bailey had 15 points and six rebounds with three assists, hitting 7-of-9 (.778) at the line in Davidson’s win over Ohio … Davidson freshman Bobby Durkin was 4-of-7 (.571) from the field for 13 points with five rebounds and four steals in Ohio victory … Keyshawn Hall had 18 points and seven rebounds with three assists in George Mason’s win over North Carolina A&T … Philip Alston  scored 15 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists with a block and a steal in Loyola Chicago’s win over Central Michigan … Loyola freshmen Miles Rubin had 13 points and nine rebounds with four blocks while shooting .625 (5-for-8) from the field in the CMU win … Matt Cross had a near triple-double, with 24 points, a UMass single-game record-tying eight steals and nine rebounds while also collecting four assists in a win over Siena … Jaden House had 19 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in Rhode Island’s win over Northeastern … Rhody freshman David Fuchs had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds (five offensive) in the win over the Huskies … Saint Joseph’s Rasheer Fleming tallied 19 points and nine rebounds on 8-of-13 (.615) shooting from the field in the Hawks’ win over Loyola Maryland …  SJU freshman Shawn Simmons II was a perfect 4-of-4 from the field for 10 points and with five rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win over the Greyhounds … Sean Baristow scored a career-high 22 points, plus seven rebounds, five assists and one steal in VCU’s win over Gardner-Webb.
