NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Saint Louis graduate student Abbie Miller it's Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while her senior teammate Emily Puricelli nabbed Defensive honors. George Washington freshman Kate McGrath was named Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Monday, are for games played Sept. 4-10.
Miller, a midfielder from St. Charles, Mo. scored the game-winning goal - the 10th game-winner of her career - in the 88th minute to give the Billikens a 3-2 road victory over 24th-ranked Nebraska last week. With the goal, she took sole possession of eighth place on SLU's career points list with 59 and moved into the top 10 on the Billikens' career goals list with 22, tying Jenny Kehl and Seitzer for ninth.
Puricelli turned in an .824 save percentage in last week's action, which also included a 1-1 draw at Brown (RV). The St. Louis, Mo., native made nine saves, including six in the second half, in the Nebraska game and tallied five stops against Brown. Puricelli increased her school-record wins total to 53 with the victory at Nebraska. Her 14 saves last week lifted her into fourth place on Saint Louis' career list with 211, just eight shy of third-place Hanna Benben.
McGrath burst on the scene with seven points across GW's two matches last week. In a 2-1 loss against Howard, McGrath scored the Buff & Blue's lone goal, the first of her collegiate career. In a 3-3 draw with American, the rookie from Coronado, Calif., continued her stellar play by scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes of the match. She also picked up an assist on GW's final goal of the day. McGrath now ranks second on the team in points with seven, and she also leads the team in goals with three.
