NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –Atlantic 10 Conference Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade announced Thursday that veteran athletics administrator Kim Record will join the Atlantic 10 staff as Senior Associate Commissioner.
Record comes to the A-10 from the University of Virginia where she most recently served as Deputy Athletic Director. She was responsible for external initiatives, served as the Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) and oversaw selected sport programs. Prior to UVa, Record served as the athletic director at UNC Greensboro for 12 years. During her tenure, UNCG experienced tremendous growth in fund raising, academic and athletic success, with multiple teams advancing to NCAA tournaments, including men’s basketball, soccer, softball and student-athletes in individual sports.
As a member of the senior leadership team at the A-10, Record will oversee strategic initiatives, legislative activity related to name, image and likeness (NIL), governance and NCAA administration. She will monitor NCAA Council, NCAA Board of Directors and Transformation Committee recommendations and implementation. Record will also work with the Commissioner and the A-10 Presidents Council on all national and conference-wide planning, program expansion and national branding. As liaison to the conference Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs), she will oversee the leagues’ post graduate scholarship program, student-athlete wellness policies and participate in program policy development.
“Kim brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the A-10,” stated McGlade. “Her background provides the expertise to navigate the league through the ever-changing NIL landscape, and her experience in the highest level of NCAA governance service and committees will be a great asset to our membership, coaches, and student-athletes. Kim also possesses extensive experience in external communications, media and brand initiatives which will enhance the league's efforts in this environment.”
Record previously served on NCAA Council, the Council Coordination Committee (CCC), chaired the Competition Oversight Committee (COC), NCAA Committee on Academics and NCAA Women’s Soccer Committee. She is a past executive committee member of NACDA and served on multiple campus and conference committees and working groups.
During her tenure leading the 17-sport Spartans athletic program, Record ensured UNCG teams and student-athletes were successful, with no team GPAs below 3.0. She increased the UNCG donor base and set fundraising records, facilitating the building of an academic support center as well as facility upgrades. Through her 12 years at UNC Greensboro, the Spartans won 15 conference championships within the Southern Conference.
“The Atlantic 10 is one of the most highly regarded conferences in the country. They have consistently performed at the highest level both academically and athletically. I am thrilled to be joining Bernadette McGlade and her team and am honored to serve the 15 institutions that represent the Atlantic 10 Conference.”
Record’s career also includes time as a consultant with ISP Sports and 13 years as an athletic administrator at Florida State. Her career began at Virginia, where she spent 11 years, beginning in the Sports Information Department. She is a UVa graduate and she earned a Master’s Degree at Florida State.
