NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference honored Fordham graduate student Peter DeMaria as the league’s Baseball Player of the Week while George Washington junior Chris Kahler posted a second consecutive complete game to garner repeat pitcher accolades. Additionally, Rhode Island freshman Michael Anderson returned for his third-ever Rookie laurels. The awards were announced Monday following the conclusion of the 10th week of contests played April 17-23.

DeMaria, a native of Chatham, N.J., batted safely in all four games, finishing the week with a .500 (7-14) average with a double, five home runs, eight RBI and seven runs scored. The graduate student notably posted an on-base percentage of .632 with a powerful 1.643 slugging mark as well, guiding Fordham to a 2-2 record with wins over Sacred Heart in the midweek and Richmond on Saturday. The first baseman generated multiple RBI in all three contests against the Spiders over the weekend, initially hitting a two-run shot in the opener before going yard twice in the final two games for six total RBI. DeMaria also picked up four walks with a hit-by-pitch, striking out just once for the week as well.

A product of Coral Springs, Fla., Kahler tossed his second straight complete game on Sunday against VCU, setting down 10 batters on strikes while surrendering just two earned runs off four total hits and a pair of walks en route to a key 3-2 victory for the Colonials. Notably, the junior retired the first eight Rams he faced before giving up a walk. The right-hander faced the minimum through 5.2 innings before a two-out error and a clean single ended his no-hit bid, but he battled back with a strikeout to keep VCU off the board and then set the side down in order to wrap up the seventh. On the year, Kahler logged his third complete game and improved his record to 3-3 for the campaign.

Anderson, who hails from Havertown, Pa., batted a team-high .467 (7-for-15) with one dinger, two doubles and seven runs batted in over four games. The freshman first baseman hit safely in all four contests, racked up three multiple-RBI games and rattled off six total connections in the Davidson series alone. He also walked once and was hit by a pitch, bolstering his on-base percentage to .500 for the week. Finally, Anderson contributed on the mound during the week as well, tossing one frame against UMass Lowell in the midweek with no earned runs allowed on on hit, a pair of walks and two strikeouts.
