Ebeling, Dwyer Named Softball Player, Pitcher of the Week; Nogay and Sinkus Share Rookie Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Loyola Chicago graduate student Madison Ebeling as its Softball Player of the Week while Dayton sophomore Haven Dwyer was named Pitcher of the Week. Fordham freshman Neleh Nogay and Saint Joseph’s freshman Meghan Sinkus were selected as the league’s Co-Rookies of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played April 3-9.
 
A shortstop from Bartlett, Ill., Ebeling hit .700 and slugged 1.300 over three starts against UMass. She finished 3-for-4 in game one with a double, one run, and three RBI. Game two resulted in a 3-for-3 performance in which she was a double shy of the cycle, collecting a solo home run as well as a triple for three runs scored and one RBI. She closed out the series with another hit and run in game three. She also added two stolen bases and two walks versus the Minutewomen.
 
Dwyer posted a 2-0 record over 11.0 innings of work in three appearances this week for the Flyers. She closed out Dayton's 6-4 win in the Flyers' first game against Saint Louis on Saturday, giving up only one hit and one walk over 4.0 innings. The righty from Cincinnati combined for the shutout win in Saturday's 2-0 nightcap victory, again working 4.0 innings allowing two hits and one walk. She posted the team's low ERA of 1.27 for the week.
 
Nogay batted .750 across four starts, enjoying three multi-hit efforts while reaching safely three times in the other game. The outfielder from Newcastle, Pa., singled four times, scored three runs, and stole a base in the series opener with Rhode Island. In game one of Saturday's doubleheader, Nogay went 2-for-3 with another theft then went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks in the series finale. Before the weekend, she went 2-for-3 against Hofstra with a third steal.
 
Over four games on the week, Sinkus hit .500 with 1.083 slugging percentage, six runs scored and two RBI. At Delaware on Wednesday, the outfielder from West Chester, Pa., went 1-for-3 with a run scored. SJU”s leadoff hitter, she followed with a strong weekend against George Washington, going 5-for-9 with five runs scored and a pair of home runs (the only runs in at a 2-0 win) over a three-game series with the Colonials.
