NEW YORK (AP) Darius Quisenberry compiled 22 points while Khalid Moore contributed a 20-point, 11-board double-double to lead third-seeded Fordham in a 69-61 thriler against No. 11 overall La Salle on Thursday evening in the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship quarterfinals.
With the victory, the Rams break into the A-10 semifinals for the first time since 2006, challenging second-seeded Dayton on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. with national broadcast via CBS Sports Network.
"These guys believe they're going to go in and win every game they play, no matter who it is," Fordham head coach Keith Urgo said. "And in huddles, no matter whether or not La Salle is going on a run or we're on a run, they're just focused on attitude, which is let's worry about the next play. Worry about the next play. Let's focus on what we can control. Not five minutes from now, not five minutes ago, let's worry about the next possession. That's what we've been doing."
Quisenberry also contributed six rebounds for the Rams (25-7). Moore shot 6-for-14 (2-for-5 from 3-point range) and 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Will Richardson finished 4-of-7 shooting (2-for-4 from distance) to finish with 10 points.
The Explorers (15-19) were led in scoring by Khalil Brantley, who finished with 18 points and seven assists. Jhamir Brickus added 13 points for La Salle.
"All year long, we had some tough times in certain segments of the year, but we always found a way to fight back, and I thought we tried that tonight," La Salle head coach Fran Dunphy said. "We needed a play here, a play there. Maybe a missed shot here or there from the Fordham guys. But they deserved a really good season. They worked hard at it. And I'm proud of my guys. I'm proud of every one of them, and how hard they fought."
