NEW YORK (AP) Desmond Watson posted 17 points as Davidson downed St. Bonaventure 65-54 on Wednesday in the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship.

Victory in hand, the eighth-seeded Wildcats earn a date with No. 1 overall VCU in the quarterfinals, tip set for Thursday morning at 11:30 a.m. on USA Network.

"We were locked in from the jump,' Watson said. "Everything, everybody stepped up in the places they had to step up in."

Watson also contributed six rebounds for the Wildcats (16-15). Foster Loyer added 14 points while going 5-of-14 (2-for-7 from distance), and he also had eight rebounds and six assists. Sam Mennenga shot 5-for-12, including 1-for-4 from beyond the arc to finish with 12 points, while adding eight rebounds.

Chad Venning finished with 16 points and six rebounds for the Bonnies (14-18). Kyrell Luc and Moses Flowers each recorded 10 points.

"We just got close, [but] we just couldn't get that big stop," St. Bonaventure head coach Mark Schmidt. "We couldn't make that big shot. We got off to a bad start at the beginning of the second half, and that's critical. I think they scored the first five points. That got up to double digits and we were playing from behind."
