VCU Claims Regular Season Title; Earns Top Seed for A-10 Men’s Basketball Championship

Dayton, Fordham, Saint Louis Earn Byes Into Quarterfinals

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— VCU won the Atlantic 10 regular season title with a 15-3 conference record, and will be the No. 1 seed for next week’s A-10 Men’s Basketball Championship at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The 15-team tournament begins Tuesday with the championship final set for Sunday, March 12.
 
ESPN+ will broadcast Tuesday’s three first-round games while USA Network will carry the entire second round Wednesday and all four quarterfinal matchups Thursday. CBS Sports Network will air the semifinals Saturday at 1:00 and 3:30 pm. The championship final is set for 1:00 pm on CBS Sports as part of their annual Selection Sunday coverage.
 
The top-seeded Rams receive one of four double byes into the quarterfinals. In addition to VCU, second-seeded Dayton, No. 3 Fordham and No. 4 Saint Louis all finished at 12-6 and earned the double byes. Because of the three-way tie, seeds two through four were determined by a three-team head-to-head tiebreaker. VCU plays at 11:30 am on Thursday, followed by Saint Louis at 2:00 pm. Dayton opens the evening session at 5:00 pm and Fordham will play in the last quarterfinal at 7:30 pm.
 
Seeds five through nine earn byes into the second round and will play Wednesday on USA Network. George Mason (11-7) is seeded fifth and will play the winner of No. 12 Richmond (7-11) and No. 13 Massachusetts (6-12) at 2:00 pm Wednesday. The Spiders and Minutemen will meet Tuesday in the first round at 11:30 am on ESPN+.
 
No. 6 Duquesne (10-8) will open play Wednesday at 7:30 pm against the winner of the late first-round game between No. 11 La Salle (7-11) and No. 14 Rhode Island (5-13). The game between The Explorers and Rhody will tip off at 4:30 pm on Tuesday on ESPN+. La Salle earned the 11 seed over Richmond through a head-to-head tiebreaker.
 
Seventh-seeded George Washington (10-8) will play the winner between 10th-seeded Saint Joseph’s (8-10) and No. 15 Loyola Chicago at 5:00 pm on Wednesday in the second round. The game between the Hawks and the Ramblers will tip off Tuesday at 2:00 pm on ESPN+.
 
No. 8 Davidson (8-10) faces No. 9 St. Bonaventure (8-10) at 11:30 am on Wednesday for the right to play VCU in the quarterfinals. The Wildcats, Bonnies and Saint Joseph’s all tied at 8-10 and seeds were determined by a three-team head-to-head tiebreaker.
 
The winner of the Atlantic 10 Championship will receive the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
