Rayle No-No Earns A-10 Pitcher of the Week; UD’s Kapsimalis and Kemp Named Player, Rookie

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Dayton sophomore Maddie Kapsimalis as its Softball Player of the Week.  George Mason graduate student Aly Rayle was named Pitcher of the Week and Flyer freshman Izzy Kemp was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played March 20-26.
 
Kapsimalis led Dayton to a 4-1 week with a .600 average as the Flyers' everyday second baseman. She knocked out her first career home run Saturday in Dayton's first game against Massachusetts, a 9-3 five-inning win. In the nightcap, an 11-3 five-inning win, the infielder from Glenview, Ill., tallied two home runs and four RBI and went 5-for-5 on the day. For the week, Kapsimalis tallied nine hits, including three home runs and two doubles, to go with six RBI and five runs scored while posting a .647 on-base percentage and a 1.333 slugging percentage. 
 
Rayle threw her second no-hitter in the span of one month, this time against conference opponent Rhode Island on Saturday, March 25. In Mason's 3-0 victory, Rayle pitched a complete game shutout, striking out a season-high 11 batters. She pitched another complete game shutout win the following day, striking out ten Rams and also having a perfect game up until the fifth inning with two outs. On the week, the Mason starter from Herndon, Va., went 2-0, pitched 18 innings, recorded 26 strikeouts and had an ERA of 0.78. Herndon
 
Kemp posted a 0.69 ERA with two earned runs allowed and 29 strikeouts over 20.1 innings pitched. She opened the week with a complete-game shutout win with a career-high 12 strikeouts at Northern Kentucky on Tuesday. Kemp, a righty from Westfield, Ind., also picked up a save in a combined shutout win over the Norse in Tuesday's nightcap. On Saturday, she collected seven strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work in Dayton's 9-3 win over Massachusetts. Followed that with 10 strikeouts against the Minutewomen Sunday, her third double-digit strikeout game of the season.
