Camara, Dayton Outstrip Fordham in A-10 Semis, Earns First Championship Bid Since 2015

NEW YORK (AP) Toumani Camara generated 28 points while DaRon Holmes II contributed 20 as second-seeded Dayton stymied No. 3 overall Fordham via a 78-68 margin on Saturday afternoon in the conclusive semifinlal of the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship.

With the win, the Flyers advance to the championship final on Sunday afteroon at 1 p.m., facing top-seeded VCU in a in a repeat of their most recent title game appearance in 2015. The contest will air nationally via CBS.

"Our guys showed unbelievable toughness, a level of grit that you've got to have in March," Dayton head coach Anthony Grant said. "And we understood that we needed to be able to make plays on the offensive end with the way that they were mixing up their defense. It was more about making plays, and we needed to be able to defend at a high level and rebound the ball at a high level."

Holmes added six rebounds and three blocks while Malachi Smith recorded 11 points. Camara grabbed seven rebounds for Dayton (22-11) as well, finishing a new A-10 Championship-best 12-of-13 (.923) from the field.

The Rams (25-8) were led by Khalid Moore, who recorded 24 points and seven rebounds. Will Richardson added 16 points and Rostyslav Novitskyi posted 13 points.

"As long as we gave everything that we could have given, [we know] very few teams have ever gone undefeated," Fordham head coach Keith Urgo said. "So you've got to fight through adversity. You've got to learn from whatever it is that you go through. And these guys did that. Pretty much every time, they answered the call."

UD led 36-33 at the half, with Camara scoring 13 points. Dayton composed a 9-0 run late in the second half to give the Flyers a 68-58 lead with 3:40 left.
