NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named George Mason senior Haley Taormina as its Softball Player of the Week. Fordham freshman Holly Beeman was selected as the league’s Pitcher of the Week and Massachusetts freshman Natalee Horton earned Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were announced Tuesday and are for games played Feb. 13-19.

Taormina claimed her second straight Player of the Week award after going 6-for-11 (.545) with two home runs, three doubles, and a team leading 11 RBI on the weekend. Her on base percentage was .600 and her slugging percentage was. 1.364. The Chesapeake, Va., played third base and helped secure three wins in last weekend’s Spartan Classic. Her best two games came at the end of the four-game weekend, where she was 2-for-4 with five RBI in a win over Holy Cross and 2-for-3 with four RBI in a victory against Maryland Eastern Shore.

The reigning A-10 Pitcher of the Week, Beeman was again terrific in the circle for the Rams, once again earning the team's lone win of the weekend. She made three appearances, totaling a team-best 11.2 frames with an 0.60 ERA. The right-hander from Lake Oswego, Ore., came on in relief against Elon and allowed an unearned run over 1.1 innings with two strikeouts and came out of the pen again against Michigan State in game two on Saturday, holding the Spartans to just one run over 3.1 innings after they had already scored seven. Against Saint Francis on Sunday, Beeman tossed her first career shutout, limiting the Red Flash to just three singles with three strikeouts over seven frames.

Horton recorded a complete game shutout against North Dakota in Sunday's 2-0 victory. A Worcester, Mass., native, she allowed five hits, all singles, and struck out five batters in seven innings of work.
