Dayton’s Camara, GW’s Edwards Claim Weekly Men’s Basketball Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Dayton junior Toumani Camara as its Men's Basketball Player of the Week. George Washington freshman Maximus Edwards was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Feb. 6-12.
 
Camara led the Flyers to a pair of wins last week. A forward from Brussels, Belgium, he averaged 21.5 points and 12.5 rebounds while shooting .700 (14-of-20) from the field and .800 (4-for-5) beyond the arc. At VCU on Tuesday, Camara had 26 points and 15 boards. He had two steals against the Rams and his free throw with eight seconds left clinched the four-point win. Saturday against Saint Louis at UD Arena, the Flyer captain had 17 points and 10 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season.
 
Edwards averaged 11.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists in GW's 1-1 week to earn his fourth A-10 Rookie of the Week honor. A guard from Stratford, Conn., he opened his week with 11 points and 16 rebounds in GW's overtime victory over Richmond on Wednesday while playing 43 minutes. Edwards grabbed 15 of his 16 rebounds on the defensive end, tying GW's school record for defensive rebounds. On Saturday at Saint Joseph's, Edwards again scored 11 points and corralled eight boards. Edwards also snagged a career-high four steals in the game.

Malachi Smith returned from an ankle injury to score 14 points with six assists in the win over Saint Louis …  Duquesne’s Dae Dae Grant had 11 assists with just one turnover in a 2-0 week for thew Dukes in which he averaged 16.0 points, 5.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals … Duquesne freshman Kareem Rozier scored 11 points on 4-of-5 (.800) shooting, including drilling two triples, in a win over St. Bonaventure with two assists and two steals … Khalid Moore averaged 19.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in two Fordham wins, shooting .625 (15-of-24) from the field and .500 (2-for-4) from behind the arc … Josh Oduro has a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double for George Mason at Duquesne, followed by a 27-point performance where he shot 12-of-14 (.857) from the field in a win over Rhode Island … George Washington’s Brendan Adams recorded 35 points with six assists, drilling nine threes and shooting .667 (12-of-18) overall in a double-overtime win against Richmond … La Salle’s Josh Nickelberry averaged 19.5 points while shooting .545 (12-of-22) from the field and 11-for-20 (.550) from beyond the arc in two wins to help push La Salle’s win streak to four games …  Braden Norris scored 25 points for Loyola Chicago against Saint Joseph’s, shooting 8-for -11 (.727) from the field and 7-for-9 (.778) from 3-point range … Rambler freshman Ben Schwieger averaged 15 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in two games, with a 5-of-6 (.833) performance form the field against SJU … Massachusetts’ Matt Cross averaged 16 points per game while collecting 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game in two road contests … Jalen Carey averaged 14.5 points and 7.0 over two games for Rhode Island with a season-high 21 points at Saint Louis … URI’s Ishmael Leggett averaged 14.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in the Rams’ two games.… Erik Reynolds II scored 24 points in both of Saint Joseph’s wins last week, with six total rebounds, four assists, two steals and a perfect 11-for-11 form the charity stripe.
