UMass Sweeps Weekly Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Massachusetts senior Josh Cohen its Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while Cohen’s freshman teammate,  Jayden Ndjigue, was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Dec. 18-24.
 
Cohen had a standout week at the 2023 Diamond Head Classic, helping lead the Minutemen to two victories over Portland and Old Dominion. The Lincroft, N.J.. native averaged 22 points and 4.7 rebounds over three games while shooting an impressive 69.7 percent from the field. Cohen went 9-for-9 from the field versus Portland, the first UMass player to be perfect with at least nine attempts since 2012. The forward was honored as a Diamond Head Classic All-Tournament Team selection for his performances.
 
Ndjigue had the best week of his young career over the holiday, averaging 11 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 steals across three games at the Diamond Head Classic. Ndjigue started all three games helping Massachusetts to a 2-1 performance. The Ayer, Mass., native set a new career-high in points with 13 against Portland. The guard/forward also recorded a career-high five steals against Georgia Tech, becoming the first Minuteman to record five or more steals in a single game since 2021.

Dayton’s Javon Bennett led Dayton to its sixth straight win with season highs of 19 points and nine assists, and his five 3- were part of a UD single-game-record 18 treys … Keyshawn Hall averaged 23.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and shot 61.3 percent (19-for-31) from the floor in two wins for George Mason, tallying a double-double in both outings. … James Bishop IV came alive in the second half of George Washington's victory over Alcorn State, scoring 18 of his 20 points after halftime and utilizing a 9-of-12 showing at the free throw line ... GW freshman Garrett Johnson led GW with a career-high 23 points versus Alcorn State, drilling of 9-of-15 (.600) from the floor, including 5-of-10 (.500) from beyond the arc … St. Bonaventure’s Moses Flowers scored game-high 25 points in a win over Binghamton and was 8-for-13 (.615) from the floor and 5-8 (.625) from 3-point range.
