Myers Earns Women’s Basketball A-10 Player of the Week; Sweeney Named Rookie

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Duquesne junior Tess Myers its Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Richmond freshman Ally Sweeney was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Dec. 11-17.
 
Myers helped the Dukes go 1-1 on the week while enjoying a career day. She averaged 21.0 points while shooting 50.0 percent from the floor and 44.4 percent from behind the arc. In the victory over Longwood, the guard from Lower Burrell, Pa., broke the program record for most 3-pointers in a single game with 11 while scoring a career-high 35 points. She finished 11-of-16 (68.8 percent) from deep, which is the most treys made by any NCAA Division I player this season and is the single game record for the Atlantic 10. She collected five rebounds, two assists, and a block while shooting 12-for-18 from the field. At Vermont, she registered seven points on 3-of-9 shooting, with a triple while collecting three steals, two assists, and a rebound.
 
Sweeney had a standout game in the Spider win over Liberty on Saturday, missing just one shot – a free throw. A guard from Sparta, N.J., she posted a career-high 11 points on a perfect 4-of-4 from the field, 2-of-2 from deep and 1-of-2 from the charity stripe along with an assist.

Dayton’s Arianna Smith had 13 and 21 rebounds, shooting 6-of-10 from the field in a win over Ohio Dominican … Dayton freshman Riley Rismiller had 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting form the field with three rebounds against Ohio Dominican … Siobhan Ryabn scored 21 points on 7-of-9 (.778) shooting from the field, all of which were 3-pointers in Richmond’s win over in-state rival Liberty … St. Bonaventure’s  Payton Fields had 10 points, five rebounds and two assists, hitting 4-of-6 from the field against Youngstown State  … Sarah Te-Biasu averaged 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in a pair of key wins for VCU.
