NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Dayton junior Kobe Elvis and Saint Joseph’s junior Erik Reynolds II its Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week. Rhode Island freshman Cam Estevez was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Dec. 11-17.
Elvis had 27 points, including a perfect 14-for-14 at the line with five rebounds and three assists to just one turnover in the win over Cincinnati. The 27 points were a career high, one week after establishing his career best of 24 points in the Troy win. His 14-for-14 performance from the line was the third-best single-game mark in UD history. Elvis, a guard from Brampton, Ontario, has not missed a free throw since his first attempt of the season (29 straight makes). He leads the A-10 and is third nationally in free throw percentage (.967, 29-30).
In the Hawks' lone game on the week, Reynolds was stellar, pouring in a game-high 26 points on 7-of-10 (.700) shooting, including 6-of-8 (.750) from 3-point range and 6-of-7 (.857) from the line in a win over Iona at Holiday Hoopfest. Reaching the 20-point mark for the fourth time on the season, Reynolds. A guard from Temple Hills, Md., also tied for the team high in assists (four) and grabbed four rebounds en route to earning Holiday Hoopfest Most Outstanding Player.
Estevez had a career-high 17 points to go with two rebounds, two assists one steal and one blocked shot in Rhode Island's lone game of the week. A guard from Harlem, N.Y., he was a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line. It was his second straight game leading Rhode Island in scoring.
