DAVIDSON, N.C. - The University of Dayton men's soccer team clinched a berth in the Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship thanks to a two-goal performance from senior Kenji Mboma Dem and a gutsy showing from the full squad in a 3-1 victory over Davidson College Wednesday night at Alumni Stadium.
The No. 6 seed Flyers (7-6-6) continue their march to the A-10 Championship, while the No. 4 seed Wildcats (10-5-1) see their season come to a close.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
10:03 – Dayton got the scoring started when Manny Day converted a corner from Kenji Mboma Dem.
48:25 – The Flyers pushed their lead to 2-0 when Mboma Dem took a feed from Braden Seel and beat the keeper for his first goal of the night.
57:37 – Davidson got on the board thanks to a free kick just outside the 18.
62:34 – UD put the finishing touches on the contest when Sidike Jabateh intercepted a pass and set up Mboma Dem for his second goal of the night.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Dayton held the advantage in total shots over Davidson at 17 to 14, and also finished with a three-shot edge in attempts on-goal at 8 to 5.
- Both teams committed 10 fouls in the match, with the Flyers earning all four bookings.
- UD earned six corner kicks on the night, including five in the first half, and limited Davidson to only three.
- It was the third two-goal game for Mboma Dem on the season, but tonight's assist gave him a new season high of five points.
- Senior goalkeeper Dario Caetano had four saves in the contest.
- It was just the second loss at home for Davidson this season, and the most goals the Wildcats allowed at Alumni Stadium.
