JOPPATOWNE, Md. – Saint Joseph's head baseball coach Fritz Hamburg received Coach of the Year honors from the Mid-Atlantic Scouts Association at the organization's 33
rd annual banquet last weekend at the Mountain Branch Golf Resort.
"It is a great honor to be recognized with this award by the Mid-Atlantic Scouts Association," Hamburg said. "I have a great level of respect and appreciation for all that the professional scouts do to enhance and grow the game. They have certainly affected our program by drafting several of our players over the years and allowing dreams to become a reality."
Hamburg received the honor after leading the Hawks to their first-ever Atlantic 10 regular season title in 2023. Brett Callahan was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and then went on to be drafted by the Detroit Tigers while the Hawks set numerous program records, including home runs, runs batted in, runs scored, and batters struck out in a season.
"When you have an outstanding group of people to work with who are dedicated and determined to achieve victory on a regular basis, winning becomes more common," Hamburg said. "That was the case last year with our ballclub. We had a great group of players, and a very cohesive coaching staff who enjoyed being together on and off the field. We had a great deal of fun every day. I am pleased that we were able to bring home the A-10 regular season championship for the University and our baseball alumni."
