NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – VCU won the Atlantic 10 Conference regular season title and will serve as the No. 1 overall seed entering the A-10 Men’s Soccer Championship. The eight-team, single-elimination tournament begins Friday, Nov. 3 and with on-campus quarterfinal action, all streamed live via ESPN+.
The Rams concluded the 2023 season on a three-match winning streak to finish league play at 5-1-2 with 17 points, earning the program’s second regular season crown. VCU, which is 5-5-5 overall, opens postseason play against No. 8 Fordham on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 pm ET. The Rams were 3-3-2 in the A-10 for 11 points, and 6-3-7 overall.
Second-seeded Saint Louis will also host after finishing with 15 points and a 4-1-3 record in league play and an 8-4-4 overall mark. The Billikens open on championship play at 7:00 pm CT on Friday, Nov. 3, hosting No. 7 Massachusetts. The Minutemen were 4-3-1 for 13 points against A-10 competition and 7-5-5 overall. Saint Louis tied with Davidson and Loyola Chicago for second, who each had 15 points as well. The teams were seeded based on composite record versus common conference opponents, with SLU claiming No. 2, the Ramblers in third and the Wildcats as the No. 4 seed.
Loyola Chicago was 4-1-3 to earn the 15 points and 8-2-4 overall and will host sixth-seeded Dayton on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7:00 pm CT. The Flyers closed out the 2023 A-10 campaign 3-1-4 for 13 points and 6-6-5 overall. Dayton tied with Massachusetts for sixth, but UD won the head to head matchup Saturday, 3-1.
Davidson is the fourth seed with a 4-1-3 mark in league competition and 9-4-1 overall. The ‘Cats welcome No. 5 Duquesne to Davidson at 7:00 pm ET on Friday, Nov. 3 in the opening round. The Dukes tallied 14 points in league play with a 4-2-2 record and were 8-6-3 overall.
Following the conclusion of quarterfinals, pairings will be re-seeded heading into the Nov. 8 semifinals, which the two highest remaining seeds will host. The winner of the Atlantic 10 Men’s Soccer Championship will be determined with the A-10 Championship Final at the highest seed’s home site at noon on Nov. 12. The winner of the that game will receive the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
