Loyola Chicago, Devaney Duplicate Last Year's Performances, Claim A-10 Men's Cross Country Crown

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Loyola Chicago claimed its second straight Atlantic 10 Men’s Cross Country title Saturday, finishing with 26 points, with five runners in the top 10, led by individual champion Chris Devaney, who set a course record at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.
 
Devaney, last year’s individual champion as well, won the race in 23:48.6, besting a record of 24:11.8, set by Dayton’s Chris Lemon in 2010. It’s also the third-fastest time in A-10 Championship History. Francois Guilhot (24:08.7) placed third and Woody Jerome (24:10.2) was fourth for the Ramblers, who had six total runners earn All-Conference honors, including Devaney, Guilhot and Jerome. Jerome was also named the Most Outstanding Rookie.

La Salle finished second with 59 points, led by Taonga Mbambo’s sixth-place 24:13.9 and MacCallum Rowe, who was seventh with a 24:20.3. Andres Hernandez also earned All-Conference, placing 13th with a 24:33.6.  The top 15 finishers earn All-Conference.
 
Massachusetts was third with 102 points, led Robert Carew, who was 12th at a time of 24:32.9 and Erik Unger’s 24:37.1, placing 15th. Saint Louis finished in fourth place, collecting 162 points, with Spencer Werner placing ninth with 24:29.8. George Washington had 181 points and George Mason tallied 191 and had Wesley Bond finish second with a time of 24:05.8, earning All-Conference alongside Carew, Unger and Werner.
 
Rhode Island’s Ben Fleischer placed fifth overall with a 24:10.6 to lead the Rams, who were seventh with 210 points. Saint Joseph’s was eighth with 211, Dayton ninth with 219 points and Richmond 10th with 269 points. Fordham (280) and VCU (313) were 11th and 12th respectively and Duquesne, St. Bonaventure and Davidson rounded out the field.
 
Loyola Chicago head coach Gavin Kennedy was named A-10 Coach of the Year. Also earning All-Conference accolades was Jason Clayton, Sean O’Connell and Gabe Smith from Loyola, and Duquesne’s Zack Toth.
