DAYTON – Senior Madison Wilson played hero for the University of Dayton women's soccer team Friday night, knocking in a header in the 87
th minute to lift the No. 3 Flyers over No. 6 Saint Joseph's, 1-0, at Baujan Field.
With the win, the Flyers advance to the Atlantic 10 semifinals.
KEY MOMENTS
After numerous attempts throughout both halves, UD (13-1-5, 7-0-3) finally busted through on Wilson's sixth goal of the season. Junior Noel Blain set up the play with a masterful flick to senior Natalie Hegg, who then sent a pass to the back post. Wilson was on the waiting end of the touch, giving the Flyers the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Wilson's goal gives the London, Ontario native six on the season and puts her in first on the team in total points with 16.
Dayton out-shot Saint Joseph's 23-5 overall and 7-2 in shots-on-goal.
The Flyers also held the edge in corner kicks, 10-3.
With the win, UD improves to 5-0 against Saint Joseph's in the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
Sophomore keeper Batoul Reda picked up her 10
th shutout of the campaign, giving her the fourth-most in a single season in program history.
Reda's save percentage now sits at .900 on the season, leading the Atlantic 10 and putting her in fourth in the NCAA.
