George Mason, Dayton and Saint Louis Take Men's Soccer Weekly Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference has named George Mason graduate student Luis Maestre and freshman James Eliuda its Men's Soccer Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively. Dayton senior Dario Caetano and Saint Louis junior Jeremi Abonnel shared Defensive Player of the Week honors. The awards, announced Monday, are for games played Oct. 16-22.

Maestre recorded three goals and two assists in two games last week for the Patriots. The midfielder from Elche, Spain, scored two goals (14th and 37th minute), including the eventual game-winner and added two assists in Mason's 7-0 victory at Radford. Maestre also netted Mason's goal in a 2-1 loss against VCU in the final home match of the regular season. He registered three shots and one shot on goal in 90 minutes of action. Maestre is tied for first in the Atlantic 10 and ranks third in the NCAA in assists (9) and he is tied for third in the league in points (17).

Caetano recorded six saves and earned the shutout in a hard-fought road draw at Saint Louis in a tough environment. The keeper from Pombal, Portugal, was steady between the posts and directed his back line as they earned their fourth shutout of the season. Caetano has played every minute for the Flyers this year.

Abonnel made six saves in the shutout against Dayton, marking his fourth clean sheet of the year. To date, the goalie from Aix-en-Provence, France has a 5-1-2 overall record and a 0.63 goals against average to lead the Bills.

Eliuda scored his first collegiate goal in the 24th minute and played 61 minutes in Mason's 7-0 victory at Radford. Against VCU in a 2-1 loss, the midfielder from Juba, South Sudan, took three shots with one shot on goal and played all 90 minutes of the match.
