NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference tabbed Massachusetts graduate student Sam Breen as the league’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Richmond freshman Maggie Doogan managed to secure her second straight Rookie laurels. The awards were announced Monday following the conclusion of the 12th week of contests played Jan. 23-29.

Breen powered the Minutewomen to yet another perfect 2-0 on the week, averaging 20.5 points per game, 9.5 rebounds per game and 6.0 assists across the two-game stretch. Notably, the graduate student wing collected her 12th double-double of the year behind a memorable 29-point, 11-board performance in Thursday’s early-afternoon clash against VCU, tallying an additional eight assists with one block and four steals as well. For the week, the Gibsonia, Pa., product shot 17-of-32 (.531) overall while hitting on 4-of-8 (.500) from beyond the arc and 3-of-4 (.750) at the charity stripe.

Doogan contributed another strong week for Richmond, shouldering the offensive load throughout a back-and-forth Sunday tilt against Saint Joseph’s en route to a career-high 28 points, five assists and three blocks along with the eventual Spiders overtime victory. Hailing out of Broomall, Pa., she recorded her fourth-straight double-digit scoring effort across a career-best 37 minutes versus the Hawks, consistently converting from the line via a career-best 8-of-10 (.800). In the early-week matchup against Fordham, the freshman registered 10 points with nine rebounds, coming up just short of a double-double. Doogan also picked up four assists, two thefts and a block through 33 minutes.
