NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Four-time defending Atlantic 10 women's soccer champion Saint Louis secured distinction as the preseason favorite entering the 2022 campaign, per the league's annual Preseason Poll. Additionally, the conference announced the 12-woman Preseason All-Conference Team on Thursday morning, a week in advance of the season's opening slate of matches set for this upcoming Thursday, Aug. 18.

The A-10 Preseason Poll and Preseason All-Conference Team are voted on by the league's head coaches.

The Billikens head into the season a near-unanimous top overall selection in the poll, earning 224 total points behind 14 first-place votes. Returning A-10 Rookie of the Year Emily Gaebe headlines the veteran corps for SLU chosen for the Preseason All-Conference Team, as she is joined by the 2021 first-team selections Abbie Miller, Brionna Halverson and Emily Puricelli as well as fifth-year midfielder Hannah Friedrich. Saint Louis clinched the program's fifth title last year after composing a 13-9-1 overall mark and 7-3 run in A-10 competition, eventually powering past fourth-seeded Massachusetts in the championship finale, 4-1, before upsetting Ole Miss in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.

Dayton slotted in at second on the Preseason Poll, logging 197 total points and one first-place vote. Junior forward Itala Gemelli, reigning Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year, registered the lone spot on the preseason squad for the Flyers.
