FAIRFAX, Va. – Fifth-seeded Dayton (22-23) managed to, once again, take advantage of team's elimination prowess throughout the team's third-consecutive threat at ejection from the Atlantic 10 Softball Championship, holding firm down the stretch as a pair of go-ahead runs in the seventh frame elevated the Flyers over No. 3 overall Saint Joseph's, 3-1, on Friday afternoon at the George Mason Softball Complex.

With the win, the Flyers continue their run through the league's consolation bracket after dropping the opener to Saint Louis on Wednesday, proceeding into the second semifinal against top-seeded George Washington for a shot at the #A10SB Championship Final, first pitch set for 5:20 pm on Friday afternoon.

The contest sat a virtual deadlock for nearly the entirety of play, as Dayton opened the scoring with a RBI groundout in the second before a solo homer from Kaelin Cash in the third evened things back at one apiece.

The Flyers offensive engine ignited early in the seventh, sparking off the bat of Kaelene Walter on a single up the middle before an attempted sac bunt by Emily Daniel resulted in an SJU error and both runners moving into scoring position. A-10 Rookie of the Year Emma Schutter took advantage of the situation, slicing a single through the left side to open the door for the game-winning run; the freshman followed up by playing bait on a double steal, allowing Daniel to score as well.

In the circle, UD ace Kelsey Gumm (11-8) tossed the full 7.0 innings with just one run allowed on four hits, striking out a pair along the way. Emily Siler (12-12) put in a competitive effort for the Hawks, logging a complete 7.0 frames herself with two earned runs given up on five total hits and four walks.
