Weekly Tennis Accolades Announced

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Atlantic 10 Conference has named George Mason junior Rithik Sardana and Fordham junior Avery Aude its Men's and Women's Tennis Performers of the Week, respectively. Davidson's Udday Singh and Dayton's Neena Katauskas earned Rookie of the Week accolades. The awards, announced Tuesday, are for matches played Mar. 14-20.

Sardana posted a combined 5-1 record over George Mason's spring break trip while leading the Patriots to a pair of team wins against Lehigh and Colgate. That included a perfect 3-0 mark at No. 2 singles and 2-1 showing at No. 2 doubles for the Union City, Calif., native. He won all three of his singles matches in two sets.

Aude went a perfect 2-0 in singles and doubles play last week, helping the Rams to a pair of wins against Queens College and Siena. The Woodland Hills, Calif., product, opened the weekend with a dominant 6-0 decision at third doubles, before taking a straight set victory (6-3, 6-2) at the top flight. The next day, Aude moved to the top doubles spot with Valeriya Deminova for a 6-1 victory, before earning a 6-4, 6-2 win second singles.

Singh earned the 'Cats their only point of the day during a tough midweek non-conference match up with James Madison. The rookie, out of Chandigarh, India, earned his sixth singles win of the season against the Dukes, downing JMU's William Karpinski in a two-set, 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Katauskas won both of her singles matches against A-10 opponents last week in Dayton's weekend trip to Charleston, S.C. Against Massachusetts, the Chamblee, Ga., native, beat Thamonpan Jonglertrakul in three sets 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 in No. 3 singles, while pairing with Sarah DeMarco for a 6-2 victory in No. 3 doubles play. Then on Sunday, Katauskas defeated Davidson's Emma Heiderscheit in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, for her team-leading 10th win of the season, also in the third singles flight.
