PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Fourth-seeded Loyola Chicago advances to the program's first-ever Atlantic 10 Men’s Soccer Championship Final after downing No. 2 overall Duquesne in the league's semifinals via a 1-0 mark on Wednesday evening at Arthur J. Rooney Field.
The Ramblers (9-2-6), who officially joined the league earlier this summer, will play Sunday for the A-10 title and the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. Loyola will either travel to top-seeded Saint Louis or host No. 6 Dayton Sunday at noon, pending the outcome of the second semifinal.
Marc Torrellas scored the lone goal of the contest in the 59th minute, taking a pass from John Gates and sending it high to the center of the goal. Torrellas led the Ramblers offensively, taking five of LUC’s 21 total shots. The aggressive Ramblers offense also earned 15 corners and forced Duquesne keeper Domenic Nascimben to secure five saves.
Duquesne (11-4-4) managed 13 shots while registering seven corners. Nate Dragisich and Ask Ekeland each posted two shots to lead the Dukes.
