DAYTON, Ohio – No. 2 Dayton got a goal in each half and kept No. 7 Massachusetts scoreless to post a 2-0 shutout in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Championship Friday night at Baujan Field.

The Flyers advance to the semifinals and will host either No. 4 Davidson or No. 8 Loyola Chicago, depending on the outcome of Saturday’s Saint Louis-Loyola quarterfinal match. The championship is reseeded following the quarterfinals.

Italia Gemelli put the Flyers (15-3-1) up 1-0 in the fifth minute, taking a long serve from Diana Benigino and making a nifty move to beat UMass keeper Bella Mendoza for the early lead.

Alicia Donley added the insurance marker in the 59th minute, driving home a corner kick from Natalie Hegg. Hegg’s corner was one of six for UD to two for Massachusetts. The Flyers also led in shots with 15, six of which were on goal.

The Minutewomen (5-9-5) had numerous chances, finishing with 10 shots, five of which were on goal, but Dayton keeper Batoul Reda stopped all five to preserve the clean sheet. Mendoza made four saves of her own for UMass.
