Collins, Reynolds Claim First Men's Basketball Weekly Awards of 2022

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Saint Louis sophomore Yuri Collins the A-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Saint Joseph's freshman Erik Reynolds II was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Dec. 27 – Jan. 2.
 
Collins scored a career-high 24 points in the Billikens' win against Richmond, topping his previous career best by seven points. The 24-point output also is the highest of the season by a Billiken. The point guard from St. Louis also had career highs of 10 field goals (10-of-17; .588) and a trio of 3-pointers (3-of-5; .600), while dishing out a game-high eight assists and grabbing six rebounds.
 
In the Hawks' lone game on the week, Reynolds, a guard form Temple Hills, Md., had a career night at Richmond, scoring a season-high 17 points on 7-12 (.583) shooting, including 3-6 (.500) from 3-point distance, to go with four rebounds and an assist in a Saint Joseph's win.

George Mason's Davonte Gaines recorded a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double, shooting .625 (5-of-8) from the field and .500 (3-for-6) from beyond the arc in a near miss at No. 6 Kansas … Makhi Mitchell was nearly perfect from the field, scoring on 7-of- 8 (.875) while collecting eight rebounds and two blocks in a Rhode island win over American International … Rhody freshman Sebastian Thomas dished out five assists in the victory over AIC … Cameron Brown was key in Saint Joseph's win over Richmond tallying a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double on 7-of-11 (.636) shooting … Saint Louis freshman Lassina Traore had six points and four rebounds in limited action in the victory over the Spiders.
