Loyer Named A-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week; Johnson Earns Rookie Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Davidson junior Foster Loyer the A-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Duquesne freshman Jackie Johnson III was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Jan. 3-9.
 
Loyer finished the week averaging 22 points, four rebounds and five assists per game, while shooting 52 percent (13-for-25) from the floor, 46 percent (7-of-15) from 3-point range and 91 percent (11-for-12) at the line. In Davidson's conference-opening win over Saint Joseph's, Loyer had a game-high 25 points on 10-of-17 (.588) shooting, including five 3-pointers. A guard from Clarkston, Mich., he capped his week and Davidson's 11th straight win with 19 points, 11 of which were at the line, to go with four rebounds and five assists versus Rhode Island.
 
Johnson went 10-of-14 (.714) from the field in scoring a game-high 27 points in leading Duquesne to an Atlantic 10-opening win at UMass. The win was DU's first at UMass since 2011, ending a five-game skid. The guard from Wichita, Kan., who added a season high-tying four assists, scored the Dukes' last four points after UMass cut the DU lead to three with :39 left. Johnson, who also was a perfect 4-of-4 from the foul line, scored 16 in the second half in posting his second 27-point game of the season.

Dayton's Toumani Camara averaged 15 points, five rebounds and two assists while shooting .650 (13-of-20) from the field in a split week for the Flyers … Flyer freshman DaRon Holmes scored 12 points in each of Dayton's games this week, tallying a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double versus VCU …  Clifton Moore had a 21-point, 12-rebound double-double with three blocks and three assists for La Salle against VCU … La Salle freshman Khali Brantley scored 18 points on 6-of-15 (.400) shooting with a pair of assists and a pair of steals … Rhode Island's Antwan Walker had 13 points, four rebounds and a career-high five assists, shooting 5-of-6 (.833) from the field, including 3-for-3 from 3-point range … Francis Okoro tallied a 13-point, 14-rebound double-double and blocked four shots while shooting .625 (5-for-8) from the field in Saint Louis' non-conference win over Iona … Vince Williams averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 rebound and 4.0 assists for VCU in a pair of wins, including recording a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double at Dayton.
