Petrik, Reilly and Donohoe Win Silver for Team USA

TOKYO, Japan - Rhode Island women's rowing alumnae Allie Reilly and Karen Petrik won silver for the United States at the Tokyo Paralympics Sunday morning.

Competing for Team USA in the PR3 Mixed Coxed Four rowing event, Reilly and Petrik teamed with Dani Hansen, Charley Nordin and John Tanguay to finish second in the event with a time of 7:20.13. Race favorite Great Britain won the race in 7:09.08.

The race was tight through the first 500 meters. Rowing in lane 1, Great Britain held a slight lead of 0.77 seconds over the Americans, who were in Lane 2. the biggest push came in the second 500 meters. Great Britain's lead increased by nearly four more seconds, as Team USA trailed by 4.72 seconds at the midpoint of the race.

The two lead boats stayed comfortably ahead of the rest of the field. France - which won a medal for the first time in the event - took bronze with a time of 7:27.04, nearly seven seconds behind Team USA.

It was the second straight international medal for the team of Petrik, Reilly, Hansen, Nordin and Tanguay. Coached by URI women's rowing head coach Shelagh Donohoe, the team also won silver at the 2019 World Championships in Linz, Australia.

Overall, the Team USA PR3 Mixed coxed team has won seven straight silver medals in world competitions. Sunday was the third career silver for Reilly, and the second for Petrik.
