DAYTON, Ohio – Third-seeded Fordham tallied two quick goals in the second half to overcome a halftime deficit of its own making and defeat No. 2 Saint Louis, 2-1, Thursday in the Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Semifinal at Baujan Field.
The undefeated Rams (5-0-2) advance to the championship final for the first time since 2016 to face fourth-seeded George Washington. The winner of Saturday's title match, which begins at noon ET, will claim the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.
Trailing 1-0 coming out of intermission, Fordham scored the equalizing goal in the 54
th minute when Matt Sloan scored from the top of the box with a quick strike following a header flick from from Alberto Pangrazzi on a midfield service by Jack Sluys to tie the match at one. Three minutes later, Pangrazzi gave Fordham the eventual game-winner on a header following a feed from Galen Flynn.
The Billikens tried to even the score with several offensive pushes following the two Fordham markers, but none of the four shots on goal in the latter part of the second half found the net, including two clean looks in the final minute.
Saint Louis (9-5-0) scored in the first half thanks to a Fordham own goal following a cross into the box by Christian Buendia in the 34
th minute. SLU had 12 total shots in the match to Fordham's 11.
Saint Louis keeper Patrick Schulte made a game-high six saves while his Fordham counterpart, Josh Levine, made five.
The Billikens had 15 fouls to 11 by the Rams and led in the corner kick count, 4-2.
