ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The top-seeded Saint Louis Billikens (14-1) recorded goals from three different players to defeat No. 4 Dayton in the Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Semifinals, held at Hermann Field on Thursday afternoon.
Abbie Miller, the A-10 Midfielder of the Year, got the scoring started in the 25th minute. Brionna Halverson deflected a pass to a waiting Miller at the top of the box, who drilled it past a diving Madelyn Dewey in net. It was Miller's seventh goal on the season.
The one-goal lead held for the Billikens until the 64th minute. Emily Groark beat a defender in the box and sent a perfect feed into a crossing Hannah Friedrich, who headed it into the net for her third goal of the season and a 2-0 advantage.
Hannah Larson added a late insurance goal in the 88th minute off a fast break to seal the victory.
Dewey recorded four saves in the match, while the Saint Louis defense held the Flyers without a shot on goal.
With the win, the Billikens earn a spot in Saturday's Women's Soccer Championship match and will face the winner of No. 2 Massachusetts and No. 3 Davidson, at noon central time. The milestone victory was number 100 for head coach Katie Shields.
Dayton finishes their season 7-6-1 (4-3-1 A-10).
