NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Olivia Frazier its Field Hockey Player of the Week, while Lock Haven's Joaquina Orlandini and Martina Spengenberg were named the Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively. The awards, announced Tuesday, and presented by Biosteel, are for games played March 22-28.
In the Spiders 9-0 win over Saint Louis Friday, Frazier tallied her first career hat trick as a Spider, plus added an assist to collect seven total points. The junior from Cary, N.C., scored the first two goals of the game, both in the first quarter, then tallied the assist on the next goal by Cori Nichols to give UR a quick 3-0 lead. The midfielder, who took six shots and landed five on goal, wrapped up the hat trick with an unassisted goal in the fourth quarter.
Orlandini, a junior from Concordia, Argentina, was a certainly a big reason behind Lock Haven’s 2-1 double-OT upset-win over No. 20 UMass last week. She made nine saves in helping the Bald Eagles secure the first win over the Minutewomen since 2015, snapping a four-game losing streak in the series. It was just the second win for Lock Haven over UMass in school history.
Spangenberg, a rookie from Buenos Aires, Argentina, scored the game-winning goal in double-OT, which lifted LHU to an upset-win over No. 20 UMass last week. After a long run into the circle the midfielder sent a ball to the far post that beat the UMass goalkeeper and found the back of the cage.
