NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 has named Saint Josephs' graduate student Caela Abadie its Player of the Week, while George Washington redshirt junior Sierra Lange has earned Pitcher of the Week. Fordham sophomore Devon Miller was named Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Tuesday and presented by Biosteel, are for games played March 15-21.
Helping the Hawks to a four-game sweep of La Salle, Abadie hit .615, with 11 RBI, eight runs scored and five home runs. Slugging 1.769 with a home run in each game, the West Chester, Pa., product was 2-for-3 in the opener and followed with a 1-for-4 with three RBI. On Sunday, the starting first baseman was 5-for-6 for a combined six runs scored, six RBI and three home runs.
Lange starred in the circle in a weekend series sweep at George Mason, compiling a 3-0 mark with a 0.88 ERA and 18 strikeouts over 16 innings. The Plano, Texas, native, started all four games for the Buff and Blue and allowed one run or fewer in each outing, contributing to a pair of combined shutouts with Faith Weber. Her longest outing came in the series finale when she allowed one run on five hits with six Ks over six innings in an eventual 8-2 victory.
Miller only made one start in the circle this week due to a deep Fordham rotation but she made the most of it, striking out a career-high 15 in a start against Maine, the most strikeouts by a Ram since 2015 and the first 15-strikeout game since 2015. The Chadds Ford, Pa., native allowed just four baserunners, walking one, for her first career complete game. Miller also added a double and a walk in the game, as well.
