Funk Earns Final A-10 Player of the Week; Kolek Selected as Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Saint Joseph’s junior Taylor Funk A-10 Player of the Week. George Mason freshman Tyler Kolek was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, the final of the season and presented by Air Force Reserve, were announced Monday and are for games played Feb. 22 – March 1.

Leading the Hawks to a 2-0 record on the week, Funk averaged 29 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 56.3 percent from the field and 45 percent from behind the arc. Against Dayton, Funk scored a career-best 36 points, including his 1,000th career point, in a 97-84 win. The forward from Lancaster, Pa., followed with a game-high 22 points to go with six rebounds in a 76-73 win over Richmond in the regular season finale.

A guard from Cumberland, R.I., Kolek averaged 15.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and shot 50 percent from 3-point range in a 2-0 week for George Mason. He opened the week with a team-high 16 points (3-7 3pt FG) in Wednesday's win over George Washington. He added team highs in assists (4), steals (3) and grabbed five rebounds against the Colonials. In Saturday's victory over La Salle, Kolek notched 15 points (4-7 3pt FG), and grabbed three rebounds in just 19 minutes on the floor.

Ibi Watson averaged 15.0 points on 11-of-19 (.579) shooting for Dayton in a split week last week, while dishing out four assists … Flyer freshman R.J. Blakney scored 15 points on an impressive 6-of-7 (.857) against Saint Joseph’s, and in total he was 9-of-11 (.818) from the field and 4-of-6 (.667_ from 3-point range in UD’s two games … Marcus Weathers had a big week for Duquesne, averaging 25.5 points per game with a 28-point, 14-rebounds performance in the Dukes win over Rhode Island, where he was 12-for-20 (.600) from the field … Duquesne freshman Chad Baker scored 21 points on 5-of-7 (.714) from the field with six rebounds, three blocks and three steals versus Rhode Island … Jordan Miller averaged a double-double (13.5 points, 10.0 rebounds) in a 2-0 week for George Mason … Fatts Russell had 27 points, five assists and two steals for Rhode Island against Duquesne … Saint Joseph’s freshman Jordan Hall averaged 13.5 points in two Hawks wins last week, including an 11-point, 10-rebounds double-double at Richmond Monday … Saint Louis’ Hasahn French had an all-around impressive week, averaging 16.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.7 blocks in three games and two wins for the Billikens
