NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named St. Bonaventure junior Asianae Johnson A-10 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Dayton freshman Tenin Magassa was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, presented by Air Force Reserve, were announced Monday and are for games played Feb. 1-7.
Johnson matched her season-high with 18 points to lead the Bonnies to a 71-58 victory over Davidson Sunday. Johnson scored 12 of her 18 points in the second half and finished the game 8-of-11 (.727) from the floor. The guard from Brooklyn, N.Y., also pulled down a team-high six rebounds, dished out three assists and recorded a block in the win.
Magassa capped off a three-win week with a career-high 20 points to go with six rebounds, two blocks, a steal, and 9-of-11 (.818) shooting in the win at La Salle Sunday. The center from Morsang-Sur-Orge, France, averaged 13.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 blocks, and shot 64.3 percent overall off the bench for the Flyers as they earned wins at Saint Louis in overtime, Saint Joseph's, and La Salle. She opened the week with 16 points, nine boards, and eight blocks, which ties for fourth most in a single game in UD history.
