NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named VCU freshman Lauren King as A-10 Volleyball Player of the Week, while her freshman teammate Jasmine Knight earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Davidson freshman Bella Brady was chosen as the Rookie of the Week. The awards, the first of the season, were announced Monday and are for matches played Jan. 22-31.
King opened her collegiate career with three straight double-digit kill performances, while hitting .484. An opposite side hitter/middle blocker from Southfield, Mich., King averaged 3.67 kills and 0.89 blocks per set in three VCU victories. She accounted for 37 points across nine sets in the Rams opening two weekends.
Knight racked up 16 blocks (1.78 per set) in three VCU wins to begin her career. The middle blocker from Phoenix also hit .333 and averaged 2.33 kills, including 12 kills and six blocks in her first career match.
In the first two games of her career, Brady was the Wildcats' starting libero, picking up 36 digs across six sets, averaging 6.0 digs/set. The rookie libero from Winter Park, Fla., also had two service aces and four assists.
