MERION STATION, Pa. -- Top seed Saint Joseph’s broke the record for most team goals in a championship game and the largest margin of victory with an 8-1 win over No. 4 Richmond Friday morning at Ellen Ryan Field to advance to its sixth straight A-10 Field Hockey Championship Final.

The Hawks will face the winner between No. 2 VCU and No. 3 Massachusetts in Saturday's Championship final at 1:00 pm ET.

The Hawks set the tone against UR, scoring twice in the first quarter on goals by Freke van Tilburg and Anna Miller, and then tallied three more in the second quarter courtesy of Manu Ghigliotti, Nika Hansen, and Freke van Tilburg, sending the gmae to halftime with Saint Joseph's up 5-0.

Lily Santi scored the first goal of the second half for the Hawks, less than seven minutes into the third quarter. Ghigliotti then hammered home back-to-back goals to record a hat trick and put the nationally ranked No. 12 Hawks up 8-0. Ghigliotti's two goals gave SJU the record for most team goals in a single game, topping the 2005 Richmond team that beat UMass 7-1.

Richmond’s Lindsey Frank squashed the shutout bid, scoring an unassisted goal at 53:12. The final margin of seven topped the previous record of a six-goal differential set twice before.

Richmond Goalkeeper Erika Latta made eight saves while Robin Bleekemolen made one save for the Hawks. SJU led in shots, 25-4 and penalty corners, 11-4.
