NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Every Atlantic 10 team will make at least one television appearance as part of the A-10 Women's Basketball television package, which the league announced Wednesday. There will be 32 appearances across 16 games on the three conference media partners, ESPN, CBS Sports Network and NBCUniversal.
There will be 13 regular season games, conference matchups, and three A-10 Women's Basketball Championship broadcasts. CBS Sports Network will air eight regular season games and two championship games, and NBCUniversal platforms will carry three regular season games. ESPNU will broadcast two regular season games and the championship final.
The schedule tips off on Wednesday, Jan. 5 with a Massachusetts at Rhode Island matchup on NBCUniversal platforms. CBS Sports Network's first games will be a doubleheader on Sunday, Jan. 9 with Rhode Island and Fordham playing at noon and VCU and Saint Louis tipping off at 2:00 pm ET.
CBS Sports Network will also carry the La Salle at Saint Joseph's game on Monday, January 17 as part of the Atlantic 10's celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The game will be part of wraparound programming developed by the A-10 Commission on Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for MLK Day.
The last two champions, VCU (2021) and Dayton (2020) will square off on Sunday, Feb. 13 at noon on ESPNU, one of two games on Feb. 13, the final television date of the season. Duquesne plays at Massachusetts in the other game on that Sunday on CBS Sports Network. Dayton will also face 2019 champion Fordham on Sunday, Jan. 23 on ESPNU at noon.
As previously announced, the 2022 A-10 Championship will be held March 2-6, 2022 with all 14 teams participating in a single-site format. The first round, second round and quarterfinal games will be available live on ESPN+, the Walt Disney Company’s industry-leading sports streaming service. The semifinals will air on CBS Sports Network. ESPNU will air the A-10 championship final, marking the 25th straight year an ESPN network has televised the league’s title game.
During the 2020-21 season, the Atlantic 10 Conference had five women’s basketball teams qualify for postseason play. VCU defeated Massachusetts in the 2021 Championship final at the Siegel Center, earning the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Additionally, Dayton, Fordham, UMass and Saint Louis all earned invites to the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT). Saint Louis reached the WNIT quarterfinals while the Minutewomen played in the consolation final.
Last fall, the Atlantic 10 extended its long-standing agreements with all three media partners. This will mark the ninth year of the continuing agreements with ESPN, CBS Sports and NBC Sports. Atlantic 10 institutions reside in states that comprise 33.3 million television households, approximately 30 percent of the total national media market. There are nine A-10 institutions in or adjacent to the top 25 media markets in the country.
Additional regional and local television coverage will be announced at a later date. All games not picked up as part of the A-10 television package will be streamed on ESPN+ through the Atlantic 10’s agreement with ESPN.
