NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Louis successfully concluded the year with the league’s first perfect conference record since 2013, garnering a total of 24 points behind an 8-0 mark en route to the program’s sixth-ever Atlantic 10 Men’s Soccer Regular-Season Title. The Billikens will serve as the No. 1 overall seed for the upcoming 2021 A-10 Men’s Soccer Championship, which kicks off Saturday with first round matches on the campuses of the top four seeds.
Second-seeded Rhode Island, No. 3 Saint Joseph’s and No. 4 Fordham join Saint Louis as hosts for the quarterfinals. Rhody closed out the season at 5-2-1 in A-10 competition for 16 points, topping the 5-2-1 Hawks by means of a tiebreaker based on results against common conference opponents. Fordham secured the final host site behind a 4-3-1 mark in league play for 13 points, notching the fourth overall seed via a head-to-head tiebreaker over No. 5 VCU.
Saint Louis, which finished 12-0-3 and earned recognition as the No. 14 men’s soccer squad nationally per the NCAA, will host No. 8 Dayton. The Flyers wrapped up the year 3-4-1 in league competition for 10 points, as well as 6-8-3 overall, and emerged on top of a three-way tiebreaker for the eight seed over Massachusetts and George Washington by means of head-to-head results. UD will take on SLU on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
Rhode Island concluded the 2021 campaign at 9-3-2 overall and will host No. 7 Davidson on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET at the URI Soccer Complex. The Wildcats posted a 9-6-2 overall mark and 3-3-2 for 11 points in the conference standings.
The Hawks, which put together an 8-8-2 overall record, are slated to host No. 6 Duquesne at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday at Sweeney Field. The Dukes finished at 3-3-2 for 11 points in league play and 8-6-2 overall, clinching the sixth seed over Davidson via a head-to-head tiebreaker based on results against common conference opponents.
Defending A-10 champion Fordham concluded the season at 6-9-2 and will battle fifth-seeded VCU at Jack Coffey Field on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. The visiting Rams closed out at 9-6-2 on the year along with 4-3-1 mark in A-10 competition for 13 points.
The semifinal round, slated for Friday, Nov. 12, will feature the winners between Saint Louis/Dayton and Fordham/VCU in the opening bout at 1 p.m. ET before the winner of Rhode Island/Davidson takes on the victor between Saint Joseph’s/Duquesne in the second match at 4 p.m. ET. The championship final, which will determine the winner of the A-10’s automatic NCAA bid, will be played at noon ET on Sunday, Nov. 14.
The highest remaining seed following the four first round games will host the semifinals and championship match on Nov. 12-14.
