NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference has named George Mason senior Sara Chontosh and St. Bonaventure graduate student Cristina Torres its Women's Soccer Co-Players of the Week. George Mason senior Louisa Moser earned Defensive Player of the Week, while St. Bonaventure freshman Chiara Gottinger was named Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Monday, are for games played Oct. 4-10.
Chontosh, a native of Reykjavik, Iceland, netted both goals in a 2-0 victory against Duquesne last week. The midfielder found the back of the net in the eighth and 16
th minutes for her first two tallies of the season. Chontosh fired six shots in the match, landing four on target. Her 2.85 shots per game is good for fourth in the Conference.
Torres tallied Bona's two goals in a 2-1 win against Davidson, recording her eighth and ninth goals of the season en route to SBU's third A-10 win of the season. The forward from San Juan, Puerto Rico, opened the scoring in the 16
th minute on a successful header, before notching her second goal of the game in the 61
st minute. Torres leads the A-10 in goals (9) and points (18).
Moser, a goalkeeper from Schmalenberg, Germany, recorded nine saves in the match as the Patriots defeated Duquesne, 2-0. Moser faced 14 shots, stopping all nine on target, for her second shutout of the season.
Gottinger recorded five saves in a 2-1 win against Davidson. The rookie from Pirching am Traubenberg, Austria, leads the Atlantic 10 and ranks third in the nation with 94 saves. Gottinger faced 13 shots, turning away five of the six put on target.
