NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade announced Friday the formation of the COVID-19 Medical Advisory Committee, which will provide expertise and guidance on the virus and safely returning the A-10 to athletic operations. The committee is comprised of professional experts including physicians, medical  faculty, mental health professionals, public health professionals, athletic administrators and athletic trainers.
 
“The Atlantic 10 is taking every precaution related to the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the health and safety of all involved – from our student-athletes to support staff, coaches and our fans,” stated McGlade. “The insight and professional expertise of this committee will provide  the A-10 with a strong knowledge base from which we can make thoughtful decisions regarding the safe return of college athletics within our championship sports.”
 
Dr. Debi Corbatto, the Deputy Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator at George Mason University, will chair the committee. Corbatto has served in numerous leadership positions in athletics, focusing on the health, safety, well-being and performance of student-athletes. She also currently serves as a member of the Enterprise Risk Management and Emergency Operations group at George Mason. Davidson’s Chris Clunie will represent the league’s Athletic Directors. The Atlantic 10 continues to plan and prepare for a return to sports for the 2020-21 academic year. Earlier this spring, the A-10 took steps to minimize travel for fall and spring Olympic sports by regionalizing the conference schedule and reformatting seven of its championships to a four-team bracket as part of its COVID-19 response. The COVID-19 Medical Advisory Committee will enhance that preparation by exploring options for a resumption of athletic activities and providing advice on courses of action that prioritize health, well-being and safety in establishing conference protocols.

Dr. Debi Corbatto Ph.D., Chair – Deputy Athletics Director, George Mason University
Dr. Corbatto is the lead administrator of Mason’s Frank Pettrone Center for Sports Performance. Along with her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, she began her career as a certified athletic trainer, and has served appointments with the US Olympic Committee and USA Basketball. 

Chris Clunie, Athletics Director, Davidson College
Clunie is a former Davidson men’s basketball student-athlete. Prior to returning to his alma mater, he spent ten years with the NBA, his last role as director of international basketball operations. He holds a Master’s degree in Public Affairs from Columbia University.
 
Mike Mulcahey, AT, EMT, CISM – Certified Athletic Trainer, University of Dayton
Mulcahey is in his seventh season at Dayton, providing medical care to Men's Basketball and the Golf programs. He was a Clinical Coordinator and faculty member in Xavier’s athletic training degree program, and volunteered at the Olympic Training Center and for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Services Team.
 
Dr. Eric Anish M.D. – Medical Director & Team Physician, Duquesne University
Dr. Anish focuses his clinical work on inpatient general internal medicine, outpatient primary care medicine, and non-operative sports medicine. He also has served as a consultant with the U.S. Olympic Committee and various sport programs.
 
Dr. T. Sean Lynch, M.D., Team Physician, Fordham University
Dr. Lynch is an attending physician in Orthopedic Surgery at New York-Presbyterian and an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Columbia University. He specializes in the non-operative and operative treatment of hip and knee disorders in athletes of all levels.
 
Chris Hennelly AT, Associate Athletics Director, The George Washington University
Hennelly oversees medical coverage, treatment and rehabilitation of over 450 student-athletes. Along with his administrative duties. Hennelly serves as the sport administrator overseeing the gymnastics and men's and women's water polo programs.
 
Dr. Meredith Kneaval, Ph.D., Associate Dean, School of Nursing & Health Services, La Salle University
Dr. Kneaval is a former student-athlete whose areas of expertise include biopsychology, statistics and research design. She has done extensive work in the area of concussion protocols through several grants from the NCAA.
 
Jeff Smith AT – Senior Associate Athletic Director,  University of Massachusetts 
Smith has oversight of the sports medicine, sports performance, behavioral health and wellness and student athlete development units. He also served as athletic trainer for both the ice hockey and football programs for sixteen seasons.
 
Dr. Lindsey Anderson, Ph.D. -- Director Psychological Consultation Center, University of Rhode Island
Dr. Anderson is a licensed Clinical Psychologist with a focus in Behavioral Medicine and Health Behavior Change.  She oversees the graduate training clinic for the Department of Psychology and all graduate student externship training.
 
Dr. Rachel Turk Ph.D. – Athletics Staff Psychologist, University of Richmond
Turk works with student-athletes on mental health concerns. A former student-athlete, she has worked to improve student-athlete well-being and performance, including included implementing mental health consultations for athletes who have experienced a season or career-ending injury.

Dr. Claire Watson Ph.D – Assistant Professor, St. Bonaventure University
Dr. Watson is a former student-athlete and currently serves as the Faculty Athletic Representative at SBU.  She is the Program Director for the Public Health and Health Science Majors. She was the Executive Director for the Allied Health Initiative that established the School of Health Professions in 2016.
 
Dr. Marc Harwood M.D., Team Physician, Saint Joseph’s University
Dr. Marc Harwood is a board-certified non-operative sports medicine physician. He also serves as team physician for the Philadelphia Phillies, and is an active member of the Medical Advisory Committee for Major League Baseball.
 
Father Michael Rozier S.J. Ph.D. – Assistant Professor, Saint Louis University
Father Rozier is an assistant professor of Health Management and Policy in the College of Public Health and Social Justice. Research interests include public health ethics, policy framing, population health strategies and community-hospital partnerships .
 
Dr. Gonzalo Bearman M.D., Chair of Infectious Diseases, Virginia Commonwealth University
Gonzalo Bearman is Chair of the Division of Infectious Diseases, Professor of Internal Medicine and Hospital Epidemiologist at the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System. Dr. Bearman is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and General Preventive Medicine and Public Health.
 
Dr. Francis G. O’Connor, M.D., MPH, Medical Director,  Uniformed Services University
A professor and the Medical Director for the Consortium for Health and Military Performance, O’Connor has been a leader in sports medicine education and research for the military for over 30 years. He is a past President of the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine.
