Dr. Nicole Gabana Bio
Dr. Nicole Gabana is the Director of Sport Psychology at the University of Massachusetts and a Certified Mental Performance Consultant. She specializes in helping athletes, coaches, and teams develop a range of mental skills to optimize mental health, well-being, and performance. Prior to joining the UMass team this month, Dr. Gabana was an Assistant Professor of Sport Psychology at Florida State University from 2017-2020, where she provided education and training to graduate students and conducted research on athlete mental health and performance. Her research focuses on the application of positive psychology to sport, including concepts such as gratitude, spirituality, and resilience. Dr. Gabana has been published in numerous academic journals and book chapters, and has presented her work at conferences across the country. Prior to COVID-19, she was an avid traveler and beach-goer. She has recently picked up knitting and now enjoys long walks in wide-open spaces.
