WASHINGTON D.C.- Ninth seeded Richmond snuck by No. 8 George Washington 57-49, Tuesday in the First Round of the 2020 Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championship at GW’s Charles E. Smith Center Tuesday night.
The Spiders advance to the quarterfinals to play top-seeded Dayton Friday at 11:00 am ET at University of Dayton Arena in Dayton, Ohio.
Richmond jumped out to an early 10-2 lead but quickly found the score tied at 17 to end the first quarter. Despite trailing 38-39 at the end of the third quarter, the Spiders held the Colonials to just two points in the last six minutes of the game.
UR was led by sophomore Kate Klimkiewicz with 15 points on 6-9 (.667) shooting from the field, including 3-5 (.600) from beyond the arc. Eight of Klimkiewicz’s points came in the final quarter of the game, as she helped solidify the Spiders’ lead and secure their spot in Dayton.
UR senior Jaide Hinds-Clarke recorded a near double-double with eight points and crashing the boards with 11 rebounds.
GW’s Sydney Zambrotta and Mayowa Taiwo both finished with a team-high of 11 points with Taiwo nearing a double-double with eight boards.
