NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Richmond junior Grant Golden A-10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Massachusetts freshman Tre Mitchell was selected as A-10 Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Feb. 10-16.
 
Golden totaled 31 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists, three steals, and two blocks in a pair of blowout Spider wins. The forward from Winchester, Va., scored a game-high 16 points despite playing just 19 minutes in Richmond's 27-point win at La Salle. He had six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals against the Explorers. He then recorded a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists in the Spiders' 18-point win against rival VCU. Golden made 68.2 percent of his shots from the floor (15-of-22).
 
Mitchell had a career-high 26 points on 11-of-22 (.500) shooting from the field and 2-of-5 (.400) from 3-point range along with 10 rebounds to record his third double-double of the season. The center from Pittsburgh had the best game of his young career while being guarded by No. 6 Dayton's Obi Toppin on Saturday. Mitchell, who earned his third A-10 rookie honor this season, was also named Rookie of the Week last week.

Jon Axel Gudmundsson almost averaged a triple-double last week, with 9.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 10.5 assists, including dishing out 13 dimes versus Fordham and recording a 14-point, 11-rebounds double-double in a win at St. Bonaventure  … Jalen Crutcher had another big week for No. 6 Dayton, averaging 19 points, five rebounds and four assists to lead the Flyers to two wins, including holding on to first place in the A-10 versus Rhode Island … George Mason freshman Xavier Johnson had a strong week, with 11 points, and seven rebounds in the Patriots’ win at VCU, followed by 17 points on 6-of-10 (.600) shooting versus rival George Washington … GW’s Armel Potter had 20 points, six rebounds and eight assists against Mason, shooting 9-of-15 (.600) from the field … George Washington freshman Jameer Nelson, Jr. scored 16 points in the Revolutionary Rivalry games versus the Patriots, while also grabbing five rebounds and four steals … Jeff Dowtin scored 12.5 points per game, dished out 6.0 assists per game and collected a total of five steals in a split week for Rhode Island  … Rhody freshman Jacob Toppin was 4-of-5 (.800) from the field and 3-for-4 (.750) at the line in scoring 12 points in the Rams’ win over Saint Joseph’s … St. Bonaventure freshman Justin Winston was 8-of-14  (.571) from the field and 4-for-7 (.571) from 3-point range en route to a 20-point performance in the Bonnies' win over Saint Joseph’s …  Javonte Perkins scored 24 points for Saint Louis versus La Salle, hitting on .63.6 percent of his field goals (7-for-11), 2-of-3 (.667) from long range and 8-of-9 (.889) at the line.
