NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Richmond junior Grant Golden A-10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Massachusetts freshman Tre Mitchell was selected as A-10 Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Feb. 10-16.
Golden totaled 31 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists, three steals, and two blocks in a pair of blowout Spider wins. The forward from Winchester, Va., scored a game-high 16 points despite playing just 19 minutes in Richmond's 27-point win at La Salle. He had six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals against the Explorers. He then recorded a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists in the Spiders' 18-point win against rival VCU. Golden made 68.2 percent of his shots from the floor (15-of-22).
Mitchell had a career-high 26 points on 11-of-22 (.500) shooting from the field and 2-of-5 (.400) from 3-point range along with 10 rebounds to record his third double-double of the season. The center from Pittsburgh had the best game of his young career while being guarded by No. 6 Dayton's Obi Toppin on Saturday. Mitchell, who earned his third A-10 rookie honor this season, was also named Rookie of the Week last week.
