NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Rhode Island senior Cyril Langevine Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Massachusetts freshman Tre Mitchell was selected as A-10 Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Feb. 3-9.
Langevine provided two efficient, effective performances, averaging 13.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steal in two wins for the Rams The forward form East Orange, N.J., scored his 1,000th career point and finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and four blocks against Massachusetts. He followed that up with his sixth double-double, getting 11 points, 13 rebounds and three assists at George Washington. For the week, Langevine was 9-for-11 from the floor (.818), missing just one field goal in each game. He also made his first career 3-pointer, which came on the first shot of the game at GW.
Mitchell averaged 23.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 66.7 percent shooting in two games last week. The center from Pittsburgh had a career-high 30 points on 13-of-20 (.650) shooting, along with five rebounds and three assists at Rhode Island on Tuesday. The 30 points were the most in a single game for a UMass freshman since 2004. Mitchell followed it up with 16 points on 7-of-10 (.700) from the floor with five rebounds, three assists and two steals against George Mason.
